Donut Shop

There are a lot of designers who don’t make. There are a lot of makers who don’t design. We do both.

Hey! We’re Donut Shop,

… A furniture focused, creative studio made up of friendly designers and fabricators working together to create something sweet. Established in 2017 in Detroit, we’ve developed an unconventional approach to our work that interweaves theory and practice into one seamless process. This allows us to thoughtfully develop, meticulously plan and skillfully craft each project.

We maintain a close-knit team to ensure personable communication with our clients —whose input and collaboration is welcome. We think making things is pretty cool and bring that passion to every project.

So, welcome! You’ve come to the right Shop.

A lot of the design firms we work with on a regular basis have something in common. They value and include bespoke furniture and fixtures in nearly all of their projects. Parini, a growing interior design firm based in Detroit is one of these clients. When they approached us to help realize the key lighting and fixture moments in Mad Nice, a new concept by Heirloom Hospitality, we knew it would be a fun one. Read More

The new occupants of modernist architect, Sigmund Blum’s private residence approached their new home with some big ideas. The final look of the ladder is ultimately the amalgamation of the many requirements that were considered when designing it. Our goal was to add playful detailing when possible within these parameters, but not distract from them or the beautiful room in which it would ultimately live. Read More

A project of this complexity requires a vigilant eye for detail, tireless communication, and a wariness of potential bottlenecks until it is crated, shipped, and installed. While many of our suppliers are highly specialized in their field, our specialization is the ability to wear many hats. Read More

How We Work

You are a →

Design Professional

Whether you are looking to source a one-off showstopper or an entire fixture and millwork package, we’re set up to do both. We work alongside designers, architects, procurement teams and GC’s to execute a project’s most essential moments. Our expertise and production facilities allow us to design and vet for manufacturing. This means the finished project will never be a watered down version of your vision. It is best to bring us on to a project as early as possible so that we can discuss concept, budget, timelines, and how to avoid any potential bottlenecks.

Businesses

For clients small to big, we work closely with you to understand your business’s needs and develop work that strengthens your brand and functions effectively. We have worked on product displays, jewelry cases, signage, lighting, seating and countless other projects for businesses just like yours.

Residential Client

Can’t find what you’re looking for out there? Let’s work together to figure out what you need and create something that’s one-of-a-kind. We will make sure you understand the process and explain anything you aren’t sure of.

and want to work with us

Discovery Phase

Let’s get to know each other and learn a bit more about your project. This phase involves meeting to discuss your project’s requirements and parameters.

Concept Development

After learning more about the full scope of your project, we get to the drawing board to explore solutions from a functional and aesthetic level. Feedback is always welcome and multiple iterations are typical.

Design Development

Once we have a concept that you’re excited about and want to move forward with, we create shop drawings, gather material samples, prototype and develop a manufacturing plan.

Build Phase

All the planning and meetings come to fruition during the build phase. We purchase material, coordinate with vendors, turn on our machines and bring your project to life!
